Pensions Campaign – Ipswich News

This week we are emailing everyone in the association to remind them that there is still a week to go in the NUT ballot on pensions and to encourage them to return their ballot papers.

The ballot is going well and we are confident that there will be a positive vote for strike action. The email campaign is one last push to get the Ipswich vote as high as we can which will help us when Union negotiators meet the government later this month.

Ipswich NUT’s Vice President and Secretary will meet with Ipswich MP, Ben Gummer on Saturday to lobby regarding the pensions campaign.

So, if you haven't voted yet and your ballot paper is still at home, we would be really grateful if you can find it and return it by the end of this week. Thanks.

We would also welcome the support of local members at a public meeting about pensions cuts at the Public Library, Old Foundry Road, Ipswich at 6.30pm on Thursday 16th June. All schools have been sent a poster advertising the event and we would appreciate members and reps ensuring that this goes up on the Union notice board at your school. Your support at this meeting would send out a good message locally in support of the national campaign. For further details, Click Here.

Associations and Unions Meeting, Suffolk One Wed 15th June 2011

Ipswich NUT welcomes that there is to be a meeting at our bright new local sixth form college, Suffolk One. Many local members now either work at Suffolk One or attend training sessions there. It would be good to encourage those not yet in a union at Suffolk One to join the NUT or should they not have QTS, the UCU.

The NUT only represents qualified teachers but we have a sister union, the UCU that caters specifically for non QTS colleagues working in 16-19 provision and beyond. UCU is the largest post-school union in the world: a force working for education that your employer and the government cannot ignore. It understands the work you do, and the problems you face. And, of course, the more members UCU has, the more effective the support and protection that they offer will be.
